When you see Minnesota's many lakes, beautiful rivers and streams first hand you can understand why the people are so tied to the water, it is a grandly beautiful place.  Having the threat of that being destroyed would be a great motivator to fighting hard against the pipeline, I would be very angry also.

How many readers of these forums know this-

"Fracking into underground drinking water sources is not prohibited by the 2005 Energy Policy Act,
which exempted the practice from key provisions of the Safe Drinking Water Act."

Studies being done by Stanford University scientists show that oil and gas companies are fracking at
shallower depths (through underground sources of drinking water)
than previously believed.
Whether this leads to aquifer contamination is yet to be proven.
My question is-how can it not? Considering all the chemicals they use in the process.

Here is more profit before all else greedy desperation;
Fracking wells at the Pittsburgh airport? Sure — what could go wrong?

By Eve Andrews Posted Image Fred
"Here’s a great idea: You have a fairly new and extremely unregulated technology that’s used to extract a natural resource with a known tendency toward explosion. Why not install that technology at a major international airport?"
http://grist.org/new..._campaign=daily
As a former master aviator,  putting up well derricks at an active airport is insanity.  In fact putting in ANY more fossil fuel wells or mining, with what is known, is also insanity.  The biosphere is precious beyond humanity, and for humanity.

What's that old saying;
why do we keep hitting ourselves in the head with a hammer? Because it feels so good when we stop.

We're still hammering (fracking) away at our own heads.

Oil and gas companies used diesel to frack wells and then changed the data after the fact.

"Diesel fuel contains a high concentration of carcinogenic chemicals including benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene, and xylene, and they disperse easily in groundwater."

Colorado Town Sues State, Gov. Hickenlooper and COGA to Protect Right to Ban Fracking

Anastasia Pantsios | August 21, 2014 10:08 am | Comments

"In a state wracked with clashes over its explosive expansion of fracking, residents of Lafayette, Colorado just outside Boulder, have filed a motion for a preliminary injunction to prevent the state of Colorado, Gov. John Hickenlooper and the Colorado Oil and Gas Association (COGA) from taking away the town’s right to ban the practice."

and they think this will not leak, and will save us???
Carbon capture and storage finally approaching debut

https://www.sciencen...ca6c14-93287133

The old idea of fracking and coal plants, putting drilled holes into the rock to store CO2 or toxic greedily used fresh water.  It leaks and causes earthquakes, and doesn't lower the risk of fast CAGW.

Those living close to the tar sands operations can expect cancer.

No doubt; we can expect this thing to happen sooner or later.  With the chemicals contained in this fracking procedure, no one or no living organism will ever be safe.

True but then stocks, bonds and money are not living things although the people responsible for this madness
think their money is a living, breathing thing. Or an alter to be worshiped at.  :wacko:

Our two mothers took a beating last night; Mother Earth and Mother Nature
but
there are small glimmers of hope.
Cities and towns in these states: California, Texas and Ohio have banned fracking.

No surprise; gop passed approval of the KXL pipeline but Obama is still saying no. Hopefully forever.
Obama-
"Understand what this project is: It is providing the ability of Canada to pump their oil, send it through our land,
down to the Gulf, where it will be sold everywhere else. It doesn't have an impact on U.S. gas prices."
