From another article:

Drillers got the regulatory exemption by convincing Congress that fracking fluids are ultimately removed from the shale formations into which they are pumped. But recent evidence suggest otherwise. A ProPublica investigation recently purported that “as much as 85 percent of the fluids used during hydraulic fracturing is being left underground after wells are drilled in the Marcellus Shale.” Likewise, the water treatment company ProChem Tech reported that “generally 10 to 20% is recovered.”

My guess is they'll prolong that suit forever until the damage is done.

Or just wait til everyone in the area dies off, which considering the toxins they're "drinking" in all the time,
shouldn't take too long. Thanks chaney.

The linked article ends by saying fracking is vital to national security. Isn't development of alternative energy the best and shortest route to national security?

Details, details... Fracking is good for the financial security of the corrupt business leaders. National security, financial security, it is all the same for the unethical elites running so many of these businesses.

Gas fracking or oil spilled.

I know they've been dinged for bribery and contractor misconduct.

Yeah, maybe a light hand slap but no serious money fines. If they had to pay serious money, they
might get their *&^% together.

Alas, it is relative. Million dollar fines in billion-dollar industries are tricky.

I will note that one of the fines against Halliburton was over $500 million.

The fracking and the pipeling building are very serious considerations, not only for environmentalists, but for all thise peopke who reside in the affected areas. There are strong forces behind the fracking, that are forcing the issue who are not concerned with the safety of the residents. The EPA is slow to condemn the practice so far.. The State Department apparently is somewhat satisfied with the pipeline construction route at this time, and the latest is that it will go forward.

The #gop has attached the "go-ahead" of the pipeline in the same bill with the tax credit/ extending unemployment.
They want their "bosses" from oil and gas to remain happy and rich-forget the rest of us.

Don't forget that the Canada pipeline accesses a huge pool of sand-locked oil therefore extending CO2 creation into the future. This is the great progressive democracy and example to the world's contribution to Global Warming.

This I will say half-way seriously, regarding that new super-planet that is light years away, technology had better be speeded up to deal with the mass of people looking for a new home, after the unconcerned attitude of some lawmakers. Canada, while pushing for their pipeline construction, pulled out of Kyoto, because of the US and China not adhering to the measures.

Sure, here's one: http://www.actionfor...nies/4545796858

And another 12...: http://www.contracto...149&ranking=101

Again though, million-dollar fines for a billion-dollar industry (at what nearly $18 billion in revenue in 2010).

$500 million is a more than acceptable price to assure the phony propaganda that these arrogant corporate warlords are being controlled in any way is perpetuated. The remaining 17.5 billion is all they are looking at in that formula.
