Tide gauges have been operational in the New York region since the 1850's, so they
have good data to compare the ebb and flow.
Some area's are sinking because of the ancient ice sheets shifting the land mass.
Islands in the Chesapeake are disappearing.
(Some sinking is occurring from Maine to Florida.)

The question being; how long will the East coast continue to build/rebuild-or eventually
abandon?  When will St. Louis become the new New York city?

2012 article about Norfolk, Virginia abandoning parts of the city.
