It is like they are oblivious to the necessary emissions reductions, and to the also necessary population reductions.
3-9% reductions may not seem like much, and don't get me wrong, they have a looooooong way to go,
but like I said above, it's a step in the right direction.
Their government is corruption based, like so many in the East. I'm actually surprised at their minute success
considering the corruption there.
But millions of Chinese citizens are demanding a change to breathable air. Not everything can be bulldozed
over with tanks. Maybe their government is starting to listen????

I wish our own government wasn't corrupted by the corporate/industrial and other special interests, like other countries who are really our enemies.
The direction we as a biosphere are headed is toward the population crash followed by thermageddon several hundred years later.
You are right, it is a tiny step in the right direction, but we need big steps.

China has announced that they will remove over 5 million old cars currently in use as part of their goal
to reach better air quality by 2015.
It's good to know that they have a ministry of environmental protection and that they're stepping up to the plate.

The point, at least in my mind is the fact that they used to be a bike society. Now because of desired status,
they've switched  to cars.

Yea.  I used to know them because of their bikes and now they are much known for their population and their 'made in China' product labels.  Correct me if I'm wrong.
