I miss the old Planet Green too; the first year, maybe two, had great shows on it. Then it went commercial and
it was ruined.
Discovery-the same folks that shut down our old talk forum about everything green-$$$$ took over.

No doubt they were losing money hand over fist. It was interesting they talked about their own demise when they were discussing "green fatigue". There probably weren't enough viewers to support new show production so it turned into infinite reruns. That was, of course, their death knell. My fav's were Renovation nation, living with Ed, and the dinner discussion, (forgot the name). After I saw all the shows the 2nd or third time I turned the channel as well.
No doubt people are tired of hearing about everything green and just want to see who wins "Barbeque Pit Masters" this season. :<) Destination America seems to be doing fine by contrast.
$$$$ will always take over, it's what puts food on the table. Good intentions don't. :<)

That's where I first learned about "freegan"- the video's they showed of perfectly fine food being tossed in
the trash was shocking.
Some of the fruits or veggies would have to be trimmed and cleaned but why throw out a whole apple because
of one brown spot?
American shoppers expect perfection, and because of it, tons of food is wasted every year.
Farmers plowing whole fields of mature produce under.

Food Rescue is a great organization that puts good food in the hands of people that need it. Often, it would
be trashed if they didn't "rescue" it.

And others that are helping-

I'd say back to topic but what was it again?

When disaster strikes and human beings are banned, guess what happens. Think Chernobyl.
