This isn't an article I read, just something I wondered about.  I saw this picture that depicts 32,000 Barbies which is equal to the amount of boob jobs done in 2006.

Breast implants don't biodegrade and when bodies are cremated they usually take them out because they explode. So if tens of thousands of people have been getting implants every year for several years now, isn't that going to be a lot of nasty plastic and silicone buried in the ground when they pass away?
You can't really recycle that stuff and those women probably made arrangements to be buried in all their surgically enhanced glory.

I'm sorry if this is a weird thread but that photo with all the plastic Barbies made me think of all the plastic boobs that will someday be buried in the ground.

I never thought about that one before, but you bring up a great point.  I am sure that they would cause a big problem, especially with all the people out there who have this done.  I do say that TV and other public images contributes to the amount of women who are not happy with their own body and have this done.

I didn't know they exploded when being cremated tho!! That is scary that women have them put into their bodies

So I found an article about the implants. Supposedly if you bury someone with implants, they decompose with the body.
But the article confirms that if not removed before cremation the breast implants explode and leave a goop in the cremation oven that's hard to scrape off. I'm surprised that buried implants biodegrade along with the body. I was worried that maybe the tens of thousands of plastic surgery enthusiasts were possibly polluting the Earth after their death. You learn something new every day.

I found another weird article that says cremation is bad for the environment because all the dental work and pacemakers burning up .
I don't know why I keep finding such morbid topics today. Anyway do you think cremation is bad for the environment?
I think there are probably worse things and maybe it's not such big deal. Of all the things causing global warming, I doubt that people getting cremated is causing any significant problems compared to dirty energy sources.

It adds more soot to the air, but it does take up less space better used for food crops.

This is a curious topic. I never thought about silicone breast and the environment, but it's a valid point. Also, butt implants are something to be considered too. They are very popular. It really is a good thing that they are biodegradable.

I always thought pacemakers and joint replacement were removed before cremation. I really like the idea of a natural cremation with nothing being done to the body before burning.

I know it can be bad for dogs.
A friend of mine bought (a set) a few years back and the *&^$% ups driver threw her package into the yard.
Her dogs got a hold of it, tore it all to hell and back, including her phony boobs that she bought to please her hubby.
With pieces of cardboard, silicone boob plastic and packing peanuts all over the yard, and her dogs throwing up for
days from chewing on all that junk...........
needless to say, she told her hubby a few choice words and she did NOT reorder them.

Oh no, poor pooch!! I would have thought that the doctor would be the one who would order and receive these things, but I don't know the first thing about them.

I am a bit behind the times apparently, butt implants?

True implants sure. But those were just "slip in her bra" type silicone "extra's".

A while back, I wrote an article about why small boobs are best. I completely missed out on the possible environmental aspects, so I'm comforted to know that my 'poached eggs' are good for the planet

On a more serious note, the latest technology is to augment breasts from fat gathered from other parts of the body. While there's no danger of exploding on cremation, it does mean about 10 hours on the operating table, so it's probably just as bad for the environment.

Butt implants are big business! Or if you prefer butt augmentation.
Tragic by true. Once they were popular with strippers and those in adult entertainment. Now, they're becoming popular in the "general" population. I do live in Southern California so that it for what it's worth. LOL!

Butt implants? I can say I have not see pictures, but really?  This is a different but interesting topic, something I had not thought about. So, if you plan to get cremated and have dental work, you should leave instructions to have them removed before your cremation.

Butt implants are new to me too.  And here I am with a bad case of white guy ain't got no butt.  Still, it's a little late in the day for me to be thinking about beauty.

I suppose any kind of an artificial implant could be a problem during cremation (which I have chosen when the time comes).  I have had several abdominal surgeries to correct plumbing errors and there is some plastic material still in there, intended to stay.

Think of people with pacemakers, there is actual electronics there and some sort of a battery too.

It's sort of gruesome to think surgery might be required on a corpse to make it safe for disposal.

If I were a person contemplating cosmetic surgery I don't think these considerations would sway my decision making a whole lot.
