So can we all agree white roofs cut down on AC bills and even may allow you to turn down your fan speed?  Since it cuts down on AC that means less coal being burned in some far away power plant so it does indirectly reduce CO2.

At least that seems rather straigt forward to me. :rolleyes:

The heat island effect may spread out further than previously thought.
Whether we install solar on commercial buildings, paint them white or plant them for green roof's, imo,
these choices are better than leaving them as black asphalt.

They're calling them "cool roof's" but the picture looks like white roof's to me;
(although the article does mention that grey and even red is being used)
L.A. city council updated their building codes to require new and refurbished home have cool roof's.

Berkeley National Laboratory is working in conjunction with Chinese researchers on incorporating white
or cool roof's. Green roof's (garden or just grass) are also being considered to reduce heat and emissions
from overuse of air conditioners.
