One day when my daughter accidentally unzipped her beanbag chair, all these little Styrofoam beads came out. I thought "So THAT'S what's in there."  So now when we get packing peanuts, I unzip her beanbag chair and re-stuff it with packing peanuts to restore the fluffiness.

Most shipping places, ups/fedex and the post office will take them back for reuse.Call first.

I get some occasionally, not enough to worry about, so I use them in the bottom of planters. It blocks
the drainage holes so the soil doesn't wash away, and they're not as heavy as rocks people used to use.
My husband does this as well. You can buy a product for the purpose - it's called vermiculite, I think - but this is a 'greener' alternative. If you pierce them with a pin a few times, they'll also soak up the water and help keep the plants moist. This is very handy if you live in a dry climate, as we do. I get that job!

junk shops will take them and pay you money depending on their sizes. you can also use them to pack your fragile kitchen utensils if you are not using them.
