I get what some posters are saying about reusable bags being kind of expensive, but you can actually find all kinds of tote bags at Goodwill. People get free promotional tote bags and then don't want them anymore ,so they donate them to Goodwill and you can pick some up for 50 cents. They don't have to all match or have an awesome logo. Just buy some that are clean and not ripped. You're just carrying your stuff from A to B.
Plus you're helping out a charity by shopping at their store.

A California judge has ruled to keep the plastic bag ban in place.
The ban goes into effect October 1, 2012.

There will be a .10 a bag cost for paper bags, which retailers will keep. It won't go into city coffers, but stores
will be fined $500.00 if they " flout" the ban.

Only the tip of the iceberg but over 7 billion plastic bags have been picked up from beaches around the world.
Who knows how many are still floating around out there.

I have given up ziplock bags. I now have a large set of green plastic reusable storage containers. These are so good, they go from the freezer to the microwave with no problem.

Wouldn't banning these plastic bags just result in people like me, who use them for many other purposes, having to then buy special plastic bags for those purposes? I don't see how that helps anything. If I didn't have these bags, I'd have to buy a ton more trash bags. It would be the same.

What I do not  understand are those environmental awareness campaigns aimed to reduce the use of plastic bags in commerce activities. Many governments implement actions to discourage their usage, but through the pass of time people shift back to use plastic bags and some commerce sites use them to pack what they call "vibrant content," such as appealing items meant to be given as gift.

However all of know that gift wrapping is the main environmental contaminant, hence what is the point with all of this?

Raising awareness. A lot of people  have seen plastic bags stuck in a tree but few know that seabirds,
fish, turtles and other sea creatures ingest them.

If you do live in an area that gives you a discount for using a reusable bag, if you do the math, a reusable bag more than pays for itself in a year, even at just a 10 cent discount. Another tip is to get a packable reusable bag.  I love these because they are super sturdy and can fit easily in your backpack, purse, or jacket pocket so that you never forget them.  I have used a Chico Bag for years and it is still going strong and they are only a few dollars online.  Paper bags are actually not a great substitute for plastic because they take a lot of energy to produce.

Most grocers, dollar stores and big box stores sell them for a buck. Everyone can afford a buck.
