I usually just keep the recycling bin outside the garage with my garbage bins.
That way, the garbage men can just pick up and empty both of them at the same time. You should avoid keeping your trash and recycling bin near the yard since the smells attract insects and animals like squirrels.

We have a plastic garbage can that is in our kitchen for all of our recyclables. It is right next to our garbage can. It is very convenient to just toss all of our recyclables right in there. When it is all filled up, we take it out to the garage where our large recycle can is that goes out to the roadside every two weeks for the garbage men to pick up and recycle.

We have a paper bag that we keep in the house and we load all the recyclables in there and then every morning we will bring it out to the garage and separate it. So far this method works out pretty good for us. When my husband and I move out of my mother's house, then I will probably try to manage having three cans in the house, that way it's right there and ready to use.

We have two large cans in our kitchen. One for recycling and one for trash. They are side by side so it makes it easy to make sure everything recyclable is put in the correct place.
Our county has banned plastic shopping bags, but before the ban we did recycle them as bathroom garbage bags, etc.

I have two regular trash cans for both organic and inorganic junk next to the kitchen, but a special covered area in the yard with several wooden boxes for PET bottles, cardboard, aluminium cans, glass, used newspapers, magazines, etc.
This area takes too much space but either way was unused before it was adapted as recycling center, because all this material is later sold to the junkshop, a good way to recycle and get an extra income to cover some household expenses.
