I think recycling fast food containers is a very good idea. I mean, every little bit helps, right?

Because I'm on a budget and saving up for the future, I don't go to restaurants that much. But on the occasions that I get Chinese takeout, my daughter and I wash and reuse the chopsticks and the sturdy plastic containers with lids. I was beginning to think I was a weirdo until I saw a Japanese drama where the teenage son washed and reused the cheap takeout chopsticks for his meals at home.
When I make stir fry or noodles at home, we just use some washed takeout chopsticks from our stash. Yes, I'm a cheapskate, but I hate to waste things.

We rarely eat out (I cook from scratch). There have been a couple of containers that I use for crafts (once they have been washed). I use the plastic containers to make items like Shrinky Dinks. Other than that, I put our take out containers in the trash. I do keep the big paper bags (like from Chili's take out), decorate them for Christmas and use them for gift giving.

I recycle my fast food containers. Some fast food stores in Canada have even started including a recyclin center for plastic, paper and cans next to their trash! I'm always really impressed with these stores.
Another alternative is to carry your own takeout containers with you. If that's too difficult for your life, you could at least get reuseable cutlery and a straw. Then you're keeping some stuff out of the landfill.

I think that it's a very good idea. Thank you for sharing this because these kind of topics show more ways of how to recycle. Actually, we also recycle any food containers that could still be of use to us. If you get any plastic food containers, all you need to do is wash them anyway. I think that there are a lot of possible ways on how to recycle and every single one would still be of help to our environment.

We don't generally do fast food. If I don't know what's in it, I don't want to eat it. There's that, and I am trying to eat a reduced gluten diet, and keep my blood sugars low, so it pays NOT to eat fast food.
If I've had it in the past, I've recycled and repurposed if materials permit.

Our city picks up plastics #1-7 which covers most of our chinese take-out plastic containers. Also, we're able to recycle pizza boxes that don't have TOO much grease on them. I LOVE that my city is relatively green. However, the thing that irks me, which is a little off topic is that the recycling truck dumps the recyclables out of the paper bags and then throws them in my trash can! Talk about hypocritical! Yikes.
