Just stumbled on a service called Dr. Energy Saver for Home Energy Auditthat claims to identify the efficiency of your home's systems show you where your home energy losses are, and even fix many of them at the same time. They can do a free estimateas well. The site reveals that Heating and cooling make up the largest percent of energy usage in a home – but it's not just the HVAC system that affects this number. Insulation, leaky duct work, and air leakage are also factors.

Considering the fact that most cold regions use up a lot of energy for heating, do people look for and spend for energy audit of their homes? There must be a cost-benefit balance in going for and improving the systems to conserve energy as well as spending.

There are families who take advantage of such service, which in the long run, more than likely, save them money. The electric and gas companies, provide tips to save energy costs as well. At times there will be leaflets included in your monthy bill, outlining some of these energy efficiency steps, such as insulating your water heater.

I don't know too much about household expenses when it comes to how much energy our furnace uses, but what I do know is that it does take a lot of money! So thanks for the site and I will visit it and see some great tips. Thanks again.

I think our local electric company will come to our house and perform the same type of audit for free.  I'm always suspicious of that though because I feel like there has to be something that they would gain from it...
