Water here is also drinkable but my family has always used in addition counter top water filters besides a filtering system integrated in the water tank.

I don't know if this goes into the realms of meta-recycling, but what happens to all these filter cartridges after use?
My guess is they just start piling up in landfills.
Is this right?

Good question. I know the metal recyclers take the outside tube part. I don't know what they do with the rest.
Crush it all down like the cars and melt it all together?

I'm so fortunate to be able to get my drinking water from a creek on my property. It starts off in a sphagnum moss bed and then flows as a creek. It's at that source I have a very small dam wall and a pipe that takes the water 700 metres (765 yards) to a 1000gallon tank. From there it's gravity fed to the house.
Here's a picture of my dog Mishka a little down stream from where I get my water.

I use a Brita filter in a pitcher which works very well. I received it free through doing a survey. I have a counter top filter, which needs to be hooked up.

I guess we are very fortunate to live where we do. There is a massive underground aquifer that runs underneath our little town. That is where the town gets its water from. There are regulations in place to prevent anyone from building anything that could contaminate it.

It's so important to preserve the pure water that is still available. Unfortunately mining such as coal seam gas can wreck underground water supply. I quite often take my water for granted but when ever I go out I take a glass bottle of water with me as a lot of drinking water is not so good.
That's a pic of my lovely dog Mishka. Really is my daughters dog but who moved to town, a lot of you would know how it is.
