Spills from trains, pipelines and
let's not forget-
barges.
31,000 gallons of oil leaked into the Mississippi recently.
(Crude shipments jumped to 21.5 MILLION barrels, as of 2012)

Does this pollution ever end? :vava:

Nuclear is obviously safer.

This article states the obvious-trust.
Who is running the company, and the workers that run them on a day to day basis. Illegal dumping
of hazardous waste should be a concern for all.
(Radio broadcast-NPR) link- along with text/video.

If a wind-turbine falls over and the blades chop me in half, then I'd be against wind-turbines. But until that
happens, I'm pro solar/wind and still against fossil fuels and nuclear.

Somewhat better than oil, I agree.
An informative, but depressing link to the major oil spills in recent years.

Chopped in half would seem to be fatal.
And the statistics for nuclear clearly show it to have the lowest number of fatalities per unit of energy.
So how can you reasonably object to nuclear on the basis of safety?

It's my opinion that it's not safe and you (and others) cannot convince me otherwise. Just like my choice
to be a vegetarian; no one could convince me to go back to eating animals.

(And my "chopped in half" attempt at humor from a wind-turbine was a laughable scenario written to show the ridiculousness
of people that may be against them; compared to fossil fuels) Although I am aware of the bird deaths, which
is no laughing matter.

Your opinion is not supported by facts.

Indeed, not a laughing matter. But not anywhere nearly as bad as some would make it out to be.

An article:
http://www.carbonbri...arms-and-birds/

The illustration in it shows that cats alone kill about 2,500 times as many birds as wind turbines.Cars about 600 times as many.

Several links to substantiate my opinion about facts and dislike of nuclear power.
And as I have stated before
repeatedly-
you are not going to change my mind on the dangers of nuclear power; period; so PLEASE quit trying.

I doubt anyone would get cancer from renewables.
http://www.pbs.org/w...adings/tmi.html

http://www.tmia.com/node/164

Example-

"Jean Trimmer, a farmer who lived in Lisburn, Pa. about 10 miles west of TMI.
On the evening of March 30, 1979, Trimmer stepped outside on her front porch to fetch her cat when she was hit
with a blast of heat and rain.
Soon after, her skin became red and itchy as if badly sunburned, a condition known as erythema.
About three weeks later, her hair turned white and began falling out. Not long after, she reported, her left kidney
"just dried up and disappeared" -- an occurrence so strange that her case was presented to a symposium of doctors
at the nearby Hershey Medical Center. All of those symptoms are consistent with high-dose radiation exposure."

If you want a nuclear plant close by to your home, that's your business I suppose, but I don't.

You are mistaken. I wasn't trying. I know there would be no point in doing so.

I was  presenting some figures to support my already stated stance on the subject and why it differs from yours.

I suppose we accept this as the cost of doing business?

The lead was that one of the biggest shipping channels has been closed. The second line of the story was
about the effects on the wildlife refuge where thousands of birds go in their migration.
That shows our skewed priorities.
Commerce/money vs wildlife. They're always considered second and take a backseat.
How sad and quiet will the skies be without birds?

25 Years After Exxon Valdez: ‘It’s Worse Than We Thought’

Paul Gallay | March 25, 2014 8:14 am | Comments

Posted ImageWhen it comes to oil spills, there’s no substitute for prevention. The trouble is, 25 years after the Exxon Valdez spill fouled Alaska’s Prince William Sound and four years after the horrific events in the Gulf brought on by the Deepwater Horizon blowout, we can’t seem to stop spewing oil into our waterways.
This NPR story about the impacts of the Exxon Valdez spill shows that the extent of the damage done caught the scientific community by surprise. Seems shocking, doesn’t it, considering the vast scope of the spill and the sensitivity of the habitats involved."

Cost of doing business question I posted previously has been answered.
Shipping channel port off the coast of Galveston, Tx. has been reopened.

Cannon booms are heard to try and scare off the thousands of migrating birds but many are already
dead or dying from being soaked in oil.
And of course, the oil is traveling with the current in the Gulf and our favorite  tar balls are back.

There's been so many of these damn things; it's hard to keep track.
So to refresh-
bp spilled oil in Lake Michigan
and of course,
they lied about the amount.
They low balled it at 9-18 barrels, but it's (so far) estimated at 15-39 barrels.

Great article from the Smithsonian Magazine about oil spills; specifically the Gulf oil spill in 2010 and
the effects on the eco-systems. (with links to studies)

Old pipes leak 50,000 gallons of oil onto L.A. streets.
(Hey congress; can you spell infrastructure? Or perhaps all those subsides you insist on giving the oil giants
could be spent on installing new pipes??)
Just a pipe-dream.

Update to the oil spill by texaco (later bought by chevron) in South America.
Redact is a fancy word for hide all the evidence of the pollution.
And we thought bp was bad?

Those in charge don't appear to be in any rush to stop the leaks.either. Amazing.

I wonder if they are just too lazy to clean the spill and/or they are just waiting for something nice to make them motivated to do their job.  These people - sigh.
