I've used real trees my whole life until about 3 years ago.
We got tired of the needles, and we had two dogs, so the needles got EVERYWHERE, and we didn't want the dogs eating them, so we bought a fake tree.
Personally, I'd rather have a fake tree, just because we don't have to go and cut down another tree, and the fakes one's save a lot of money, and can last for a very long time if you take care of them.
The fact that they do end up in a landfill at some point does make me want to have a real one, but I'm going to stick to a fake one, at least for now.

We have the same fake christmas tree for at least 5 years now, and we're quite satisfied with it. It cost about the price of 2 real trees, so it was definitely a good buy.

True. Mattresses, appliances and furniture take up a lot of space. But it's the chemical makeup of
fake trees that cause the concern, not their size.

Now days the plastic and the metal in the trees can be recycled at a lot places. I use fake trees because they cost a lot less over time. Also, by using real trees and replanting them, you can eventually end up with no yard and all trees on the property.

Long, long ago, as a child, I made a vow to myself to always have a real tree. I just remember coming down the stairs Christmas morning, opening the parlor door, and the aroma of the fresh tree has stayed with me to this day.
But now I prefer a fake Christmas tree. They don't die after five days, don't drop a million little needles on the carpet, and are harder to set on fire.

I always loved real trees, and we took them to the council tip for recycling, so I felt it was ecologically friendly. However, they're so expensive now, and we're living in a much smaller place, so we don't have the room for a real tree. We've had a fibre optic tree for the last four years, and it looks set to run and run, as it's still as good as new. It looks good as well, so that's me for the foreseeable future.

Real trees will always be for sale, but I assume the fake would be great because you can save it up and use it for years to come.

I had the same christmas tree for 19 years now. For every branch that is skewed, every dent in the trunk I can remember the exact moment. Having a different tree every year for me just wouldn't be christmas. So I have to say I prefer fake trees, but to me they are much more real than the 'real' trees.

Might as well bring this moldy oldie back; it's Christmas tree time again.

I have always hated fake trees. If I were to have a Christmas tree (don't do that anymore), I would want a live one. I saw a guy on Shark Tank recently whose business rents live trees, which is great. I also like a lot of the crafty things I've seen where people have made Xmas trees. I wrote a Helium article a while back on using a ladder as a Xmas tree.
