I'm sure everyone has read about the 18+ feet of snow that Alaska got recently.
New storms are brewing.
"Residents of the Pacific Northwest are bracing as Seattle weather will take a turn for the worse tonight.
Forecasters are calling for what could be the harshest winter snowstorm in several decades."

I'm in Seattle and watched the snow fall all morning. It's let up for now, and didn't leave too much behind, but we're just waiting to see what happens tonight. Our best weather guy - a professor at the University of Washington who has something of a cult following - is saying now it might be a little less. Our weather is really hard to predict, being between 2 mountain ranges and weird air currents. We could get anywhere from 4 to 14 inches - hard to say. As it is, I'm stocked up on hot chocolat and marshmallows, so let it snow!!

I'm currently staying in Vancouver and we got just a couple inches in the last few days. Less than half an hour from here, though, they got almost a foot! It's amazing how different the weather can be just a short distance away like that, but I'm thankful we didn't get it all dumped on us.

It's pretty bad in the southwestern part of the state, but not bad here in Seattle. It's 30 degrees F and still snowing but they're expecting it to stop in about an hour or so. My neighborhood has about 4-5 inches. All over the city it's anywhere from 2 to 6 inches. We expected it so most businesses announced yesterday they would close and there aren't many cars on the road - which is good because so many people here suck at driving in the snow. All in all, it's fun to have a snow day.  And, it's going to warm up and rain on Friday, so it'll all be gone. Might as well enjoy it while we can. And be thankful I don't live closer to Portland, Oregon.

Oh you're right, Shortpoet (sorry, I still can't quote here yet...yay spam control, lol). I knew it was going to get colder, but I stopped paying attention the weather predictions years ago and really only go off what's passed on to me. Friends usually start chattering about big storms on their way, but I hadn't caught word of anything this time yet. Ew.

You should be able to use the quote button-bottom right of a post. You've got 20 posts under your belt.

Btw-as you genuflect to my greatness of knowledge and prediting all things relating to weather,
I won't mind if you cover your mouth as you laugh hysterically.

~Edit~ Grumbles. When I was previewing, it would let me use them, which it hasn't in the past, but when I tried to actually post, it rejected it again anyway. So at the beginning, pretend there's a fancy quote box around what you said. And toward the end, pretend that link doesn't have spaces in it and actually shows the weather map instead. ~~

Well I *just* hit 20 posts, so yay, now it's letting me. Before, the quote button here counts as a "link" because it technically links back up to place on the page. Even when I removed that portion, it would yell at me for using a link. And because it doesn't tell me how many posts I need before I can do any of that stuff, I have to keep editing my posts after I write them to remove the offending links/pictures/code.

But no more of that. Muahaha.

In fact, to keep it on topic, here, have a picture:

That's the forecast map of 10 pm tonight for me. What do you think the chances are that it'll miss me?

So we had our expected ice storm this morning that shut down the airport and made roads treacherous and now we have steady snow with still a little ice in it which they did not expect. The storm moved farther north than expected. The governor has declared a state of emergency as tree limbs crash to the ground with the weight of the ice, cutting power lines. The lights have been flickering since last night, but we still have power. Just sitting here watching it come down, sipping hot chocolate and hoping the power doesn't go out! Interesting times here in Seattle where we are never really prepared for storms like this even though we get them every few years. It's the ice and all of our steep hills and people who think they can drive on them that are the biggest menace. I'm staying put.

Throw another marshmallow in that cocoa for me.
(and just to rub it in a bit, we're going to be in the 70's by Saturday.)

I live in Arizona.  Our high today was in the mid 60's.  Our temps here change so often.  Like one week we can be in the mid 70's and days later have a high of 55 degrees.  So you can never count on a constant temp here.  Now in the summers you can count on it being over 100 degrees everyday!  My favorite time of year.

I’ve just come on board, so here’s a broader overview of what’s up Down Under. We had the wettest November on record. We had the coldest December on record. We started January with the hottest January days on record in 122 years of recorded weather here. A few days later we had the coldest January days on record, then followed a heat wave, which has only just broken as of three days ago during which the last part was very humid. Now I’m shivering here and have lost all faith in the weather reports to the point where predictions about the cricket are more accurate. Comparatively speaking, this state has not experienced any real natural disasters that all the other states have. Tropical cyclones have been constantly pounding the northern states with intensities & in areas that they have not done before. The Eastern Sea-board has experienced almost constant flooding in areas that have not had this before, or at least for a very long time & are therefore under prepared for the events. Western Australia has had severe bushfires. Victoria has had both fires & floods simultaneously! We’ve had it easy though compared to New Zealand, which has been shaken to bits time & time again in some of the worst earthquakes in living memory.

Here and now it’s sunny, not a cloud in the sky, 24 degrees Celsius, going down to 14 degrees overnight with a top humidity of 54%. A 24k/hr breeze blows from the SSE. Beautiful!

I live North West of Fort Worth, TX and we have been having an unseasonably warm winter!

We had a high of 72 yesterday with little wind and blue skys, with a few clouds.
I actually enjoyed this yesterday! It was great to be able to get out and do a few things! :)

Today our weather is really beautiful.  We have all the windows open and I'm in a tank top and some jeans.  The kids have been playing outside ever since they got home from school.  I love when they are able to have a chance to play outside.

I think this thread may turn into a multiple page thread because the season is just starting.
(And hoping all members will post weather events here in the future too.)

Many here have already heard of the tornadoes (17 sighted-don't know if that's the official count yet) in Missouri.

Have there been tornadoes in Missouri before? You bet.
Have there been tornadoes this early in the season? Not as often. One of the reported twisters was reported
at EF 4. That's harsh.

Most years, we'd see snow on the ground at the end of February.

This same storm slammed the Midwest with large snow amounts and the south in recent days and hasn't quit yet.
Sure, we have spring time storms but tornadoes this early?

Yes, a "weather event" but it's adding to the data of the changing climate.
