Wisconsin.... a bit more rain (finally) and super windy! The conditions were favorable for tornadic activity Sunday PM, but this dissipated rather quickly. Prayers to the people in OK that endured the awful storms!

A news-person was interviewing a Oklahoma tornado victim/survivor, and asked if he was upset about losing all his
"valuables" (What an idiot)

But the man, that had been buried under appliances and debris for several hours, said-
(paraphrasing) "I have my wife, my children, my family alive. All the rest is just "bricks and sticks."

It could happen to any one of us.

Wow this news person really wasn't thinking on that one! Probably didn't mean it to sound that way, at least I would hope not!
Glad that the gentleman and his family is safe tho.

It can happen anywhere, we haven't seen devastating tornadoes in NJ but I have had a couple minor ones touch down close to me a few years ago.  We had threats and evacuate to basement warnings last year, but that was about it here.  I feel for those who are going through such devastation, it is sad.

For the weather, I can't believe that it was so hot at 9 PM here that I was sweating going for a walk.  We hit high 80's and we are so hoping for rain soon!

I think we may actually get rain over the weekend   I am hoping so! We have been in a fire warning for a few weeks now.  At least we are having spring temperatures the last couple days.  Monday was quite hot for spring, but otherwise we are finally where we should be.  Keep your fingers crossed for the rain for us please.

"West Texas, which was ground zero for scorching weather last summer, is likely to see temperatures approach
or eclipse the century mark this week. (It was 98 here yesterday, 4/25.)

During the past seven days, 746 daily record-high temperatures were set or tied, along
with 400 daily record-high minimum temperatures, according to the National Climatic Data Center.
According to Jeff Masters of Weather Underground, the 113°F measured at Furnace Creek in Death Valley, Calif.,
on April 22 was tied for the hottest April temperature ever recorded in the U.S.

So far this year, there have been more than 26,000 warm-temperature records set or tied in the U.S."
Full report here.

Here in New Jersey, we have switched back to semi-winter. We had a record breaking 85 degrees two weeks ago, now it is gray and a bit chilly. Rather this, than hot temperatures. The colorful picture is lovely, but the contrast is kind of scary in essence.

I am in NJ too! Yeah it really only feels cold tho because we had the mild winter.  Now we are not far off from where we usually would be for spring, granted it is temps we usually get closer to the beginning of spring! I am just glad we finally got rain to lift the fire weather warning, the Delaware River was so low - before the rain it was lower then I have seen it in a long time!

"As far back as records go (1895),
never
has the U.S. strung together 12 straight months warmer than May 2011 to April 2012
according to new data released today by NOAA’s National Climatic Data Center (NCDC) .

The record-setting 12-month period edged out November 1999-October 2000, the 2nd warmest 12-month period, by 0.1°F.
The average temperature was 2.8 degrees F above the 20th century average."
More stats here.

The weather is starting to crack up with snow expected for the next few days.  I love the snow. We can get some good falls here.
The  period May to July has a high chance of having warmer days due to higher than normal water temperatures in the Indian Ocean....http://www.bom.gov.a...emp.seaus.shtml

Two consecutive days of substantial, sometimes hard pouring rain.
:yahoo:
We had a lightening strike - thunder clap that was so close to the house and so LOUD, last night that all 4 of my cats
jumped straight up. Poor kitties.
Still overcast and B)

In New Jersey, right now it is mild and very nice. Yesterday it was warmer going toward hot. I felt as though we were getting ready for hotter weather, but today is not so bad. Hopefully the mild weather will continue for a good while. I do not want to rush toward summer
Cheers..

It was dry here for quite a while tho and now we have been catching up on rain, fortunately! The Delaware River was quite low in April and now we actually have water in it again!

I don't want to rush summer either, last summer was quite brutal.

I wrote this to a friend last summer-

It's so hot and dry, when I tried to get a drink of water, the only thing that came out of the faucet was dust.

It's so hot and dry, when I tried to take a drink of water, it evaporated in my mouth before I could swallow it.

It's so hot and dry that the "sweat off my brow" never even dampens my eyebrows; it dries that quick.

It's so hot and dry that I'm saving on cooking gas because I can cook on the patio. Not on my little hibachi cooker but literally,
on the patio; the bricks are that hot.
My newest recipe? Catfish crunch; from the small pebbles on the patio. Bm's have been problematic though.

It's so hot and dry, you know those freezer gel packs that get shipped with medicine? Well, I've fashioned them into headbands, earrings, and neck scarves. Selling on e-bay like cold cakes. I'm making a fortune.

It's so hot and dry that I can finally eat whatever I want all the time because when I leave my front door at say 147,
I'm down to 118 by the time I get to my front gate; and down to 74 by the time I open the car door from sweating.

It's so hot and dry that I've had to puree numerous cheesecakes down to a fine slurry, that I, in turn,
put into a intravenous bag. I roll the bag along with me on the way to the car;
it's the only way I can make it to work.

It's so hot and dry that I've had to drag an extension cord that's plugged into the house, out of the back side of the car
for running 16 additional fans in the car.
The a/c cranked to max just ain't cutting it.
And to make matters worse, it's making my home electric bill go sky high, and turning corners causes kinks in the cord;
so I have to keep working to pay the electric bill and buy more cords.

It's so hot and dry that the toilet no longer has water in it, so I'm forced to use the cat box.
My 32 ounce cats get p*ssed when they have to wait.
(See explanation of the 32 ounce cats below)

It's so hot and dry that the city gave me an award for the best example of desert landscaping they've seen in years.
It's cheap plastic of course and came from China because it's so hot and dry across the country, all the award
factories had to shut down; rolling brown-outs.
And all the tires on the semi's kept exploding from the hot asphalt they were driving on; so nothing is being shipped.

It's so hot and dry that UPS repainted all of their trucks white because all of their drivers were suffering from spontaneous combustion, and they were burning up all the packages.
(I've sold a boatload of my freezer gel packs neck scarves/headbands to them too)
Now, all the newly hired drivers wear white jock straps (it's way too hot and dry to wear any real clothing), skates, and
huge panama hats, and of course, my gel scarves and headbands, so they can still deliver.

But it's so hot and dry that no one is outside to view the damn near naked UPS drivers anyway, so it's all good.

It's so hot and dry that the cats just lay around, sprawled in front of the cooler.
They look like little fur rugs as they've lost all their weight too.

They're all down to 32 ounces each; their little meows can barely be heard above the roar of the cooler, and the 87 fans I have blowing directly at me because I don't have the strength to do anything except push another fan button on.

I do occasionally crawl out to the patio to see what's for supper but only at 3 a.m. when it's cooled down to 100.

It's so hot and dry I couldn't cry if I wanted to. Watching a tearjerker movie the other day, I had to drip hot sauce down
my cheeks to simulate tears.

LOL! That was funny above.  Not funny how hot it was for you last year tho.  It was brutal here, but not that bad.  We had real hot and dry (not as bad as you tho) and then all of a sudden we got a bunch of wet weather and slammed with Hurricane Irene and then Tropical Storm Lee within a couple weeks.  Flooded the rivers.  Just a bit crazy.  July was brutal for what we are used to here.

I am worried about the weather this summer being our winter was quite mild.

Winter is about to start. Only a week away for us here. Autumn was mild and no severe frosts that we normally have. This extended the growing season by weeks.  I've started to haul in the firewood for the next six months. We normally have cooler days as low as 4 or 5 C (40F) some days and around 12-13C (55F) on others.

Hold onto your Koala bears, I'm moving "down under" for the next 6 months, towing 4 cats-2 under each arm.
