But we live in a changing world, and nowadays we face problems like the greenhouse effect. To reduce this effect we are looking for alternative energy, thus limiting the emission of pollutants. So an idea was born in Holland. Why not build an artificial mountain and use this mountain in a multifunctional way, a tourist attraction with various recreational activities and a storage place for energy. Holland needs more and more energy and storage place for it, and wants to expand the use of alternative energy in the coming decades like wind and solar energy. The idea is to create a water reservoir by pumping water up, and lead it down via turbines and thus create energy. The “mountain” can be used in periods of low wind and sunshine.
What started as a joke, and after much brainstorming, has become a reality in the foundation “The Mountain Comes” on 27th September. This foundation examines the feasibility of the project. So will Holland have its mountain in a couple of years? We say yes, as we vote for green.
